A Pastoral Letter

Faith in a Time of Fragility,
Grief and Loss

We are living in a time that is challenging so much of what we instinctively feel called to do as people of faith.

We are living with feelings of loss and grief over large and small things.  We feel alone and fragile — physically, emotionally and spiritually.  We are used to gathering together and holding each other close, especially in times of loss.

We have begun experimenting with gathering and worshiping in new ways— sometimes without seeing each other, but trying to hold on to the “invisible string” of love that binds us together.

But, we grieve that we cannot be together to share special life moments — celebrations like baptisms, weddings and graduations.  Even more, we grieve that we cannot be together physically to care for one another as we face death and dying.  MORE

Sunday's Worship Prayer

Based on Psalm 23

Gentle Shepherd,

You protect us, comfort us, walk with us.

We want for nothing more.

But, sometimes we are consumed with wanting more.

Forgive us, and lead us back to your fold.

You show us the goodness you create.  Green pastures, still water, majestic mountains, open space.

But God, sometimes other pastures seem greener.

The waters aren’t always calm.

Our souls still thirst.
Help us to return to your fold.
