Opportunities to Serve

Mission is essential to life at Rockville United Church (RUC):

When Faith United Church of Christ and St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (USA) merged in 1967 to found RUC, advocating for those in need in Rockville and Montgomery County became foundational to our life as a church.  From the time of our founding, RUC created and led Community Ministries of Rockville, now Community Reach of Montgomery County.

Council committees guide RUC’s mission and outreach:

  • The Church in Society Committee (CIS) reviews and recommends local and international organizations for church support.

  • The Social Justice Committee focuses on the need for active participation in supporting, or opposing, issues and programs that the church considers to be of importance in local, national, and international affairs.

  • The Earthcare Committee seeks to bring awareness of good environmental stewardship practices as an Earth Care Congregation (Presbyterian Church USA) and a Green Justice Congregation (UCC).

All committees welcome anyone who wishes to participate in the life of the church beyond Sunday worship.

RUC members serve through church-created programs:

  • Service Saturdays: RUC member volunteers meet monthly at the church to prepare meals for the Rockland and Jefferson transitional houses in Rockville. It is a time of fellowship and cooking!

  • NOISY: our youth group prepares meals for Rainbow Place Shelter in Rockville.

  • Alternative Christmas Giving and the Christmas Giving Tree: provide an opportunity for RUC members to support selected organizations through holiday giving.

RUC supports local, nation and international organizations:
