Christian Education for Youth

Confirmation Class

We will explore faith: old ideas and new, the history of the PC (USA) and UCC denominations, and questions of WHY we do WHAT we DO and BELIEVE WHAT we BELIEVE as Christians.   We invite ninth graders and older youth to join this class.  Our classes will be held monthly on Sunday afternoons following worship.  Please let Pastor Scott Winnette or Director of Education Sarah Anders know of your interest or call us with questions

Rotation Sunday School

After years with a Lectionary-based curriculum and a curriculum-guided Sunday School grouped by age, RUC started something new for 2010-2011.  Our arts and mission rotation Sunday School offers choices, yet maintains age group opportunities for Senior High and Middle School students.  New offerings bring all our children together.  The rotation offers "Jamming with Jim," where children may choose to work with keyboards, wind or percussion instruments with our Music Director Jim Levy twice a month; faith stories where children read and discuss favorite Bible stories; Bible games that foster a sense of community in God's love; art led by professional artists; and drama.  Classes are led by our talented RUC membership, based upon their specialized knowledge and talents.  The younger children's classrooms are organized by topic.

In 2010/2011 we used mission activities, art, games, music, videography, creative movement and Bible study to explore  themes of creation and environmental stewardship.  Our Christian Education team is currently developing plans for the fall season, which begins September 11, 2011 with with a Rally Day celebration.  Stay tuned for more details. We use a Sunday School curriculum called Cornerstones (www.cstones.com).  If you have questions about our program and how we might engage your family, do not hesitate to email our Director of Education, Sarah Anders at sarah@rockvilleunitedchurch.org.
