| An Evening with the Labyrinth: Walking the Sacred Path Thursday, April 24 – 6:00-8:00 PM (light supper to be shared) OR Saturday, April 26 – 9:30 – 11:30 AM Crusader Lutheran Church/Rockville United Church |
During the time of the Crusades, the Christian church adopted the ancient labyrinth as a symbol of the pilgrimage journey to Jerusalem. Today, the labyrinth has become a meditative tool as a path to the New Jerusalem, a journey to rebirth and rejuvenation of life and spirit. The Cathedral of Chartres in France houses one of the few existing historic labyrinths, a beautiful and intricate design that has been duplicated in churches, sacred spaces, and on portable canvases throughout this country and the world. Our neighbor, Crusader Lutheran with Rev. Sandra Shaw, has acquired such a labyrinth and, in partnership with Rev. Dr. Duncan Newcomer of Rockville United Church and Elizabeth Gibby, a movement prayer specialist, is offering an evening of information-sharing, sacred circles, and meditative walking. This workshop will be extended on Saturday morning to accommodate your schedule or for deeper meditation. Special guest, Elizabeth Barrett Gibby, will help facilitate the workshops.
She is a veteran movement prayer educator and performer, worship designer,
and special events coordinator, having worked in a variety of venues
nationwide. |
