Christian Education

NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL PROGRAM LAUNCHES ON RALLY DAY, September 12 at 9:30 am

Bring your friends and family. Join us to learn about our new Christian Education Program, which offers choices and opportunities for all ages. Senior High and Middle School Students can take on leadership roles in environmental stewardship, serve the needy in our community, or mentor our younger children. Rotation Sunday School offerings include "Jamming with Jim," (our church music director) on keyboards, wind or percussion instruments; Faith Stories to read and discuss; Bible Games that foster a sense of community in God's love; Art led by real artists; and Drama. Our creation theme reminds us, we are co-creators with God.

Adult Seminars to Address Christians and the Environment

In keeping with the Sunday school theme for 2010-11, adult seminars will begin this fall with a four-session series from Sojourners on “Christians and the Environment.” Our schedule: Sep 19 – Session 1: A Theology of Creation. Oct 10 – Session 2: A Love Relationship with the World Oct 17 – Session 3: Green Grassroots Oct 24 – Session 4: The Earth is the Lord’s: Women and Communities of Color in U.S. Environmental History Note that our sessions dovetail around Rally Day on September 12, Camp Pecometh on September 24-26, and a special session on October 3 with Aimee Martin of Equality Maryland. On another Sunday this fall, we will have a speaker from the National Council of Churches Eco-Justice Program. We meet in the Conference Room at 9:30 to 10:20AM.

Christian Education is for all ages and stages.

From nursery care for our very youngest, to seminars and Bible study for our adult members, we believe that Christian Education reaches out to everyone. We look forward to your participation!

Sunday School begins at 9:30 a.m.

Youth Protection Policy - RUC has a Youth Protection Policy emphasizing our commitment to a safe and healthy learning environment for all ages. All teachers and those who work with children and youth are required to read and commit themselves to the policy.

Children in Worship

Children are an important part of the family of God, and RUC welcomes them as active participants in worship. The Children’s Experience, a time when the scripture is interpreted for the developmental level of our younger children, are a part of most services. Materials for younger children to use during worship are available in activity bags placed outside the entrance door to the sanctuary. These include books, stencils, crayons and pencils, and bookmarks. Children who are already reading themselves can take a Children’s Bulletin from the shelf. It has games and activities pertaining to the scripture passage.
