Hi
Beth,
I loved the energy of all the generations at
the Mission Day after worship on Sunday, the 18th. How many gift
cards did we buy and wrap for the children of Community Ministries
of Rockville?
I’m in the Dark
So far, our congregation
purchased and wrapped 109 $10.00 gift cards from Target and Wal-Mart.
We will give these cards to CMR to give out at their children’s
Christmas party. Nice job from all of you – Tom Newpher,
Beth VanLenten, Don Adams, and Jean Gregory, who made the soups
and arranged for the subs and chips; all of you who purchased
and wrapped gift cards; the members of the 40th and Forward Committee
who did the planning; Stephanie Wright and Ken Fisher, who presented
the latest on the Kaseman Health Care Clinic; and Linda and Jeff
Pattison, who led us in our traditional closing of Day by Day!
Thank you!
Dear Beth,
You have not said anything about the role of
Art Waidmann within the Central Atlantic Conference. Please let
the congregation know how much he does.
Count Me in Art’s Cheering
Section
Art is an ordained United
Church of Christ minister, as well as a member of our congregation.
Currently he is serving as Acting Associate UCC Conference Minister
and filling in for Kwame Osei Reed, who is on sabbatical. Many
of us got to know Kwame as he was the liaison for our Pastor
Nominating Committee during the search for a permanent minister.
Congratulations Art on your new role.
My Dearest Beth,
I am a true coffee addict. Today (November
18th) was the first day since I joined RUC that the coffee tasted
good to me. (It usually tastes like dishwater.) My whole table – including
some charter members – commented on the improvement. So I’m
not sure where to direct my thanks, Steve? Fellowship? Building
and Grounds? God? But wherever thanks go, please spread them generously
and please continue making coffee the way it was made today.
Love My Java
I would say that all of
the above contributed to your good cup of coffee, plus the Church
in Society Committee, who purchase the Fair Trade Equal Exchange
coffee. (If you would like to purchase this great coffee as well
as help out the growers, check out the coffee, tea, and chocolate
that is available for purchase on Sundays in Kasey Hall.) Thanks
to the Building & Grounds Committee, we now have all the
electrical power we need in the Kaseman Fellowship Hall. Our
Sextant, Steve Cooper, can set up the coffee and tea pots and
plug them in simultaneously. No longer do we have to depend on
the Elders to remember to turn them on. Come join us for coffee
(tea, juice, and sometimes goodies too) after worship, test out
the coffee, and enjoy the fellowship.
Hello Beth,
I heard that you gave Duncan a key at his
installation as our new minister. What does it mean?
Just Wondering
You heard right. On
behalf of the congregation, I did give a large brass key with
a tassel (Thanks to Pat Ameling’s creativity!) to Duncan
at the end of his installation. I told him that it was a key
to the hearts of the congregation of Rockville United Church.
Also it serves as a symbol of the doors of RUC: we want to keep
them open to the community and the world so that all of God’s
people are welcome here and so that we can go out into the world
with the good news of the love of God and Jesus Christ.
This
is an exciting time in the life of RUC. We are listening to God’s call and acting upon it. Please keep praying that
we listen to God’s call and continue taking care of each
other and those in the community. I have great faith that working
together and with God’s help, the best is yet to be at RUC!
Love and cheers,
Beth .
