Hello Beth,

I have some friends whom I would like to invite to the 40th Anniversary Party on Saturday evening, June 23rd. May I invite them?

Welcoming Will

Of course! A gang of us went through the old directories and record lists. I am sure we missed some dear former members. If you know or hear of someone we missed, please let Della or me know. We have extra invitations just waiting to be mailed out. The crucial thing for us is that we know how many to plan for by June 10th. If we need to use the sanctuary to handle the crowd, we will do so. If we need to use both the sanctuary and Kasey Hall, we will do so. The important thing is that no one feels left out of our celebration!

Dear Beth,

Is it true that there is no charge for the 40th Anniversary Dinner?

Frugal Fran

You are right! We are not charging for our party as we wanted everyone to be able to attend. We would like you to bring a dish for the potluck dinner though. Sign-up sheets for the food will be in the Narthex on June Sundays after worship or e-mail DellaK@RockvilleUnitedChurch.org.

Hi Beth,

At the last Congregational meeting we had quite a discussion about the selection and work load of Elders. What do you think?

Curious Cathy

Since I was not able to attend the Congregational meeting, I do not know exactly what happened, I did hear that over 50 people were asked to serve on the Council and turned it down. I do know that God works in mysterious and marvelous ways as we have three outstanding committed new Elders serving on the Council. We have met twice as a new Council, the May 1st Council meeting and the May 5th day retreat. At the Council meeting, we used a discernment process again to match the Elders with the Committee responsibilities. It was an incredibly moving experience where we all felt loved, supported, and affirmed as unique people on a journey of faith! Amazingly, we all got our first choices! At the retreat we shared our faith journeys, got to know Duncan and each other, and identified the issues we need to work on as a Council, including the organization of the committees and the role of CMR. It may take some time before we can report back to you. In the meantime, you can lighten the load on the Elders by offering suggestions to the Elders and serving on our committees.

Dear Readers,

Thank you so much for all the love and support you have given our family upon the death of my mom on April 16th. You have asked about my dad; he is doing well. He tells me that he cries and then moves on. We received many cards, e-mails, warm wishes, flowers, prayers, and hugs from you all which have helped us immensely. When I face a crisis, I remember the words of Rev. Frank Poole, one of our former pastors. He told me that 75 in your support system is the magical number for surviving a heart-wrenching event well. I have to agree for I feel that you have taken good care of our family; my well is full! (We might want to advertise that as a good reason to join a church, especially RUC!) Again thanks for making a difference in my life!

Love and cheers,

Beth
