February 2007
Dear
Beth,
I am happy that we are close to calling our new
Pastor. When will we know more?
Curious George
I am ecstatic and I hope
you will be too when you meet and hear Rev. Dr. Duncan Newcomer,
the candidate for our position! You will receive a letter from the
Pastor Nominating Committee giving more information about him. If
you wish to read some of his sermons and look at his picture, you
can visit the website of his last church, The Church of the Redeemer,
New Haven, Connecticut. Go to: www.uccredeemer.org. Then click on
“Sermons” at the top. Scroll down to see a number of
sermons written by the Rev. Dr. Duncan D. Newcomer. On Saturday,
March 3rd, from 2-5 p.m. we will host a reception for his wife Nancy
and him where you will have a chance to meet and greet them. On
Sunday, March 4th, Duncan will lead our worship service and answer
questions from you. Immediately afterwards we will convene a Congregational
meeting and his name will be presented to the congregation. You
will have a chance to vote by ballot. Continue praying that he will
be the match for us and us for him!
Hi Beth,
I want to attend the reception and service on
the week-end of March 3-4, but I need transportation. Can you help
me?
Can’t Drive and Can’t Walk
Yes, the members of the
PNC and Council will serve as your taxi service for the week-end.
Please call either Della at the church office (301-424-6733) or
me at 301-460-5360. We want you here at RUC to join in the celebration!
My dear Beth,
Are singles invited to the 40th Anniversary celebrations?
Or just couples?
Single Sarah
All members and friends
(single and double, short and tall, blue and green) are invited
to all the activities of RUC! We plan the events for everyone so
please come and join in the fun!
Hi Beth,
On Sunday afternoon, February 11th, I came home
to find a bouquet of flowers on my front steps from the Congregational
Care Committee of Rockville United Church. Whom do I thank for this
lovely and loving surprise?
Gratefully Yours
After worship on February
11th, about 15 members of the Congregational Care Committee under
the leadership of Frank Molony grabbed a quick bite to eat, arranged
flowers in about 30 vases, and delivered them to our members who
are ill, recovering, shut-in, or needed some TLC. We use Valentine’s
Day with its focus on love to let these members know how much we
love and care for them. Thank you, members of the CCC, for representing
us all and showing God’s love to our members in this way!
Dear Readers,
Several blogs ago, a reader asked about honoring
Don Maccallum and Wiley Prugh, the founding fathers of Rockville
United Church and Community Ministries of Rockville (CMR). We are
working on a way to do that by setting up the Maccallum-Prugh Scholarship
Fund. Donations to this fund will be to award graduates of Latino
Outreach, Chase Partnership, and other programs of CMR with a scholarship
to a college, university, or trade school. The silent auction of
our Mardi Gras party provided $1,019.00 in start-up funds. I am
working with Agnes Saenz of CMR on the details of the administration,
publicity, and award of the scholarship. If you would like to join
in the effort to honor these men of vision, love, and dedication;
please write a check to RUC and mark it for “the Maccallum-Prugh
Scholarship Fund.”
Love and cheers,
Beth
Readers with questions should write Beth
Pattison, President of RUC Church Council, at BPattison@RockvilleUnitedChurch.org,
ask her directly, or leave the question in her mailbox at RUC.
