December 2007

Dear Beth,

What’s this I hear about CMR losing their office space? RUC founded CMR; we don’t want it to go down the tubes. What can we do?

Worried Walt

You heard right; CMR (Community Ministries of Rockville) is having to leave their offices at Rockville United Methodist Church the end of April 2008. Mark Poletunow, CMR’s Executive Director, is looking at options. Duncan (our minister) and I have met with Mark about the possibility of RUC providing temporary office space. As a result, our Church Council has appointed an Exploratory Task Force to determine the feasibility of CMR locating their offices on our church property. The charge of the Task Force is to look at the physical space, zoning, legal, and financial aspects, as well as community good will. Since time is so short, they are being asked to report back to the Council at the February 2008 Council meeting. This is a challenge for CMR and our congregation, but it also is a marvelous opportunity! Only God knows where the journey will end!

Hello Beth,

Whatever happened to the congregation’s request that the Council look at reorganizing itself and rewrite the by-laws to define the relationship between CMR and RUC?

Keeping You Honest

Both of these activities are works in progress. Beginning in October, the Council refocused its monthly meetings so that we spend the majority of our meetings on Scripture reading and reflection and discussing the major questions, such as “What is our vision?” “What is the purpose of RUC?” As for the CMR/RUC relationship, I expect that the results of the Exploratory Task Force may redefine the relationship in new ways. I hope that the congregation will be patient with us as we work through these issues. We’ll keep you posted!.

Dear Readers,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all! 2007 has been an exciting year for RUC as we celebrated our 40 years in this community and welcomed a new minister. We look forward to a new vision of showing God’s love and hope in this community and the world. May you have all of God’s blessings!

Love and cheers,
Beth
