Dear
Beth,
Can’t we get a good hot cup of coffee during
Fellowship Hour?
Addicted Adelaide
Having hot coffee, water,
and decaf coffee at the same time continues to be a challenge for
Rockville United Church. Currently we are depending on the Elder
of the Month to remember to turn on the switches for two of the
pots minutes before the beginning of the worship service. When my
turn comes as Elder of the Month, sometimes I get involved in something
or somebody else and forget. I have turned the pots off when a helpful
person has turned them on earlier. Other Elders find the same problem.
To solve this, we need an electrician to add additional power, outlets,
etc. to the Kaseman Fellowship Hall so Steve Cooper, our Sexton,
can prepare and heat up 3 pots at once. The Council has appropriated
the funds but our calls to electricians have not panned out. John
Abrahams, the Elder for Building and Grounds, and I need your help;
we ask for the names of your reliable and trusted electricians so
we can contact them and get this problem fixed.
Hi Beth,
What has happened to the 40th Anniversary celebrations?
Curious Curt
The 40th Anniversary Committee
has taken a breather during July and August and now has re-grouped
and renamed ourselves the 40 and Forward Committee. We have celebrated
the past 40 years and now we want to focus on the future! We are
planning an International Night on Saturday, October 20th, with
a potluck of international foods from the world’s best cooks
(YOU!); Agnes Saenz, Managing Director of Community Ministries of
Rockville (CMR), leading the Latino Outreach Program Choir; and
folk dancing. November 18th after worship will be a Mission Project
where we will contribute and wrap Christmas gifts for the CMR Christmas
party and share soup and sandwiches. We will end 2007 and welcome
2008 with a New Year’s Eve Party. Also we are leading the
games at the Sunday School Start Day on Sunday, September 9th.
Hello Beth,
I am trying to grow spiritually. How do you do
it?
Sam the Seeker
I do not know the answer.
Although I have been “churched” my whole life, I am
still seeking to figure out what spiritual means to me. Since I
have been given the blessing of the role as Council President, I
figured I had better get some spiritual discipline in my life and
work toward letting go and letting God control my life. Every day
I try to read a blurb in Daily Word, meditate, and pray for others
around me, including my RUC family. God continues to amaze me as
I see God’s mysterious wonderful ways enfold. I welcome sharing
with you our spiritual journeys.
