Dear
Beth,
Please fill us in on the latest
on the Community Ministries of Rockville Office move.
Thanks,
Just Wondering
Mark Poletunow, the
Executive Director of Community Ministries of Rockville, has
let us know that they are negotiating to house their offices
in the former Lone Oak Elementary School and will not need to
further explore moving their offices to RUC’s facilities.
Bill Scharf, the President of the Board of Directors of CMR,
wrote to Duncan (our Minister) that the Board of CMR “have
been deeply touched by not only the offer of support but the
manner in which you and other members of the task force have
stepped up to make a remarkable professional investment of time
and energy into considering the options.” I have read the
Feasibility Study for temporarily hosting the offices of CMR
in RUC’s facilities that Bob Wright (chair), Zara Brunner,
Chris Frentrup, Laurie Kawa, Scott Vossler, and CMR representatives
prepared. It is an amazing piece of work – professional,
complete, and well-documented. Although this information will
not be used at this time, we will be able to refer to this study
when another project arises. Dear friends, please express your
thanks to these members for their time, energy, and commitment
to this project!
Hello Beth,
What is RUCUS?
May I Go
May, RUCUS is the name
of the gathering of the women for breakfast on the 2nd Saturday
of the month at 8:30 am at Mosaic Café in Rockville. Besides
eating a great breakfast, we enjoy sharing time together, catching
up on each other’s latest adventures, and basking in being
served. Men, you have the opportunity to share in the Men’s
Breakfast, which is held on the 3rd Saturday of the month at
8:15 am, at the I-Hop in Ritchie Center in Rockville.
Hello Beth,
I missed the Friendship is Ageless lunch. What
happened?
Missed You All
I am sorry you missed
the luncheon. Besides the wonderful food (a turkey dinner with
all the trimmings), the best part was the discussion of age and
interests with those of all ages at my table. I learned from
the pre-teener sitting next to me that he has created many videos
on YouTube. Later through phone and e-mail conversations, he
showed such patience as he led me through the steps to access
his site. Thank you for teaching me! And thanks go to Tom Newpher
and the Fellowship Committee for dreaming up this party, planning
it, and pulling it off so well!
Hi Beth,
I looked for a copy of Memories and Milestones. Where do I get
my copy?
A History Buff
Memories
and Milestones is the booklet that members of the 40th Anniversary
Committee and others put together of the remembrances of the
40 years of Rockville United Church’s history. We have
put extra copies in the hutch in the Narthex. Please pick one
up for your family. Again thanks to Sylvia George and Joan Hartranft
for spearheading this effort and to all of you who contributed
your memories!
Dear Readers,
I promised you I would let you know
the results of the Council brainstorming the question, “What
kind of leadership does our congregation need at this time?” Members
of the Council thought the congregation had come up with a pretty
comprehensive list and added only three more characteristics of
leadership to the list: “humility, commitment, and mutuality.” The
next step to the Council reorganization will be to discuss the
questions: “What does our congregation need its leadership
to do at this time? What roles belong to the Council? What roles
belong to the Pastor? What roles belong to both?” The Council
isn’t reorganizing just to reorganize. We need to know what
our overall vision is and then design the structure to fit the
vision. While the congregation is working on the vision through
our New Moon meetings and the follow-up Rising Sun meeting, the
Council is working on how to make the Council responsive to the
mission of RUC. God willing, it will all come together!
Love and cheers,
Beth
